Our Approach To Running Injury Physical Therapy
Many runners in St. Pete suffer from the same types running injuries, but the reason why they’re experiencing the pain is often different. Our approach to helping runners overcome these injuries is to find the source of the pain and to not just treat symptoms. In our Injured Runner Assessments, we find out why the injury happened, what needs to be changed, and start a individualized plan to keep you running pain-free.
Your Return to Pain-Free Running Plan will usually look something like this:
Detailed running and movement analysis
Strength testing of hips, knees, calves, and core
Mobility assessment specific to running mechanics
Load management guidance (how much to run and when)
Targeted strength training for runners
Hands-on treatment and recovery strategies
Injury diagnostics and diagnostic ultrasound when appropriate

In Florida, you do NOT need a referral to start physical therapy — it’s called “direct access.” That means you can schedule an evaluation and begin treatment right away.
It depends on your injury, goals, and phase of recovery. Most patients work with us 1 time per week. Some patient’s see us 2 times per week and then taper to 1 session. Point is, we create a plan that works best for you according to your goals, injury, and other factors – not just because someone 2-3x/week for 6 weeks.
We also give you a personalized home program and guidance between visits — so you’re progressing even when you’re not in the clinic.
When you come back in the following session, we assess progress, discuss the previous week, and continue to progress according to the goals we set together.
Every session is one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy — no techs, no group sessions. Depending on your needs, your visit may include:
Hands-on manual therapy and joint mobilization
Corrective exercises and strength training
Movement and gait retraining
Diagnostic testing or strength testing
Education and real-time feedback on what to do between visits
- Plyometrics, agility, and power training
- Modalities such as dry needling, TECAR Therapy, or graston.
Our sessions are goal-oriented — whether you’re trying to lift again, run again, or simply live pain-free.
Absolutely. We regularly work with patients after:
ACL reconstruction
Rotator cuff repair
Meniscus surgery
Spinal procedures
Hip and knee replacements
We’ll coordinate with your surgeon as needed and provide strength testing (like VALD Dynamo) to ensure you return safely and confidently to full function.
Not always. In many cases, runners can continue running with smart modifications while addressing the underlying issue. In fact, that’s one of our goals during our initial sessions!
Yes. We treat runners at all levels — from first-time runners to experienced athletes. We have new runners who are just getting into casual running in our St. Pete neighborhoods and parks, and we also have runners who run marathons, The Dopey Challenge, and ultra-marathons!
That depends on the injury, how long it’s been present, and training load. We’ll outline expectations clearly during your evaluation. Whatever it may end up being, we’ll map out a return to run plan to increase your mileage in a safe way.
Yes! More than 70% of our runners who come in for an injury end up staying with us on a monthly or every other week maintenance plane as they continue to run pain-free. We also have runners who come in for a Running Analysis and just to seek out recovery work between runs and races.
